Shannon Acton
Chair
Shannon Acton, MSc, P.Geol., is a professional geologist with over 20 years of experience in the exploration and development of energy resources in Western Canada. She is the Chair (2021 – present), past Vice Chair (2019 - 2020) and Secretary (2018 - 2019) of the PHAS Board of Directors. Having served on other academic and technical society boards, Shannon joined the PHAS board in May 2018 with a desire to use her experience to contribute to PHAS and to engage with the local community.

Joshua Cowan
Member-at-Large
Josh Cowan, CGA, CPA is a professional accountant with over 15 years of finance experience. He currently works as a Senior Financial Planner and Analyst for a large Oil and Gas company managing a complex portfolio with a budget that is over $500M. Prior to working in Oil and Gas he worked at Alberta Health Services and has significant experience with ASNPO (accounting standards for Not-for-Profit Organizations). Josh joined the PHAS Board of Directors in February 2022.

Megan Hunter
Secretary
Megan Hunter is an HR and Operations Specialist with 10 years managerial experience in Alberta’s nonprofit industry. She is the Secretary (2021 - present) of the PHAS Board of Directors. Having two children in the PHAS program, Megan joined the Board in December 2020 as a means of giving back to the community that has enriched her children's lives. She has a vested interest in the success and growth of the PHAS programs and enjoys being involved in her children's before and after care experiences.

Katie Kerry
Member-at-Large, HR Committee Chair
Katie Kerry, MA, CPHR, is a strategic Human Resources leadership professional with proven ability in business partnership, learning and development, talent acquisition, and employee relations. She has experience in Canada and the UK and has worked in both unionized and non-unionized workplaces in the private and public sector. A member of the PHAS Board of Directors since December 2020, Katie brings her HR expertise and experience serving on other faith and community boards to her role as the Chair of the Human Resources Committee.

Sonya Lau
Treasurer
Sonya Lau is a senior Finance leadership professional with over 15 years of experience in one of the Big Four accounting firms and a Global Oil and Gas Completion Solutions company. Sonya is the Treasurer (2021 – present) and past Secretary (2019 - 2021) of the PHAS Board of Directors. Sonya joined the board in 2019 to bring her experience to support PHAS in the on-going success and financial health of the organization.

Darren Mondor
Member-at-Large
Darren Mondor is a senior IT professional with close to 25 years of experience in a variety of business and technical roles across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. He currently works at The City of Calgary, where he leads the IT Project Management Office. A lifelong learner and strong proponent of education, he holds a Master of Business Administration and multiple certifications, including a Project Management Professional (PMP)® designation from Project Management Institute. Darren joined the Board of Directors in December 2020 and is excited to leverage his prior governance experience to support PHAS.

Jason Munroe
Member-at-Large
Jason Munroe, MBA, PMP, has over 20 years of project management experience in the aviation industry that were gained from working for airlines in Canada and abroad. Currently he is working in a Strategic Procurement capacity where he gets to put his project management skills to use daily through developing RFP’s, negotiating with vendors, and preparing contracts for multi-million-dollar projects. Jason joined the PHAS Board of Directors in February 2022 to give back to the community and has a daughter in the PHAS program.

Emilie Zaloum
Member-at-Large
Emilie Zaloum is an IT professional with over 10 years of experience in process optimization and business analysis. She is known for her upbeat personality and can-do attitude. Emilie has a child who attends PHAS and joined the board of directors in February 2022 in response to a call for new board members to volunteer. She is excited for the opportunity to learn about and contribute to the evolution of the program.

Join the Board
PHAS is a nonprofit childcare organization that is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Serving on the board is a highly rewarding experience and is a great opportunity to network with other professionals and community members. If you have a desire to engage in your community and would like to join our friendly and professional team, please consider volunteering on the board.
