Shannon Acton
Past Chair
Shannon Acton, MSc, P.Geol., is a professional geologist with over 20 years of experience in the exploration and development of energy resources in Western Canada. She has served on the board in multiple roles as the Chair (2021 – 2024), Vice Chair (2019 - 2020) and Secretary (2018 - 2019). Having served on other academic and technical society boards, Shannon joined the PHAS board in May 2018 with a desire to use her experience to contribute to PHAS and to engage with the local community.
Dr. Amanda Smith-Demers
Secretary
Amanda Smith-Demers, MSc, PhD, is a registered psychologist with over 15 years of experience working with children, youth, and their families. She works as the Psychology Team Lead at Renfrew Educational Services and in private practice with Carbon Psychology as a child psychologist, providing mental health support and psychoeducational assessments. She is known for her strength-based and neuroaffirming approach to psychological practice, working with a wide range of neurodiverse folks and as an advocate for neuroaffirming care. Amanda joined the Board in 2023 as a means of giving back to her community and to help support a community-based childcare program. She has a vested interest in the overall success, growth, and further development of the organization and is excited to leverage her education and experience to help further PHAS programming.
Megan Hunter
Member-at-Large
Megan Hunter is an HR and Operations Specialist with over 10 years managerial experience in Alberta’s nonprofit industry. Having two children in the PHAS program, Megan joined the Board in December 2020 as a means of giving back to the community that has enriched her children's lives. She has a vested interest in the success and growth of the PHAS programs and enjoys being involved in her children's before and after care experiences.
Mariko Macken
Member-at-Large
Mariko Macken is an accomplished marketing professional with over 15 years of experience, leading marketing, communication, and event strategies. She has a diverse background having worked in numerous industries, growing brands, engagement and companies and brings her collaborative approach and experience working on other volunteer boards. Mariko joined the PHAS Board of Directors, driven by a commitment to support the delivery and execution of innovative and engaging programs and connect closer with the community. She has a child currently enrolled in the program and wants to actively contribute to the success of PHAS for the benefit of all families presently involved or considering enrolment in the program.
