Board Chair

Jason Heer, BRE, M.A. Leadership, has worked in the non-profit sector for the past 25 years with agencies including Volunteer Airdrie, Boys and Girls Clubs of Calgary and Edmonton, and Big Brothers, Big Sisters of Calgary and Area. His focus is working with vulnerable and high-risk youth and providing programs that will engage them with life skills, healthy mentors, and a safe space. Jason has 5 children all of whom participate and volunteer through Airdrie/Calgary and Olds Minor Hockey and Volunteer Airdrie Youth Programs. Jason has a passion for assisting youth of all ages to achieve their goals and discover their potential.
Darren Mondor

Sandy Howard

Sandy Howard is a seasoned HR professional with over 17 years of experience working in the oil and gas industry. She currently leads a business office function, supporting leadership teams to effectively plan, integrate, communicate and execute their priorities, and manage their budget and business planning processes. Sandy lives within the King George school community and has two children in the PHAS program. She joined the Board of Directors in 2025 as a means of giving back to the community.

Darren Mondor

Dimitri Karpushev

Treasurer

Dmitri Karpushev is a senior finance and operations leader with over 10 years of experience spanning emissions management, energy, water treatment, and industrial manufacturing. He currently serves as the Business Finance Leader at ChampionX, where he drives strategic financial initiatives for its Emissions and Digital Technologies division. Dmitri has led multiple digital transformation projects, M&A integrations, and capital investments while consistently delivering strong financial outcomes and operational improvements.

Dmitri brings expertise in financial governance, audit oversight, and strategic planning. As Treasurer and Finance Director, he provides critical guidance on financial reporting, compliance, and long-term fiscal health. A father of two and active mentor in the professional community, Dmitri is passionate about creating meaningful impact through sound leadership, accountability, and community service. He is honored to contribute his experience to support PHAS.

Mariko Macken

Mariko Macken

Mariko Macken is an accomplished marketing professional with over 15 years of experience, leading marketing, communication, and event strategies. She has a diverse background having worked in numerous industries, growing brands, engagement and companies and brings her collaborative approach and experience working on other volunteer boards. Mariko joined the PHAS Board of Directors, driven by a commitment to support the delivery and execution of innovative and engaging programs and connect closer with the community. She has a child currently enrolled in the program and wants to actively contribute to the success of PHAS for the benefit of all families presently involved or considering enrolment in the program.

Darren Mondor is a senior IT professional with 25 years of experience in a variety of business and technical roles across public, private, and not-for-profit sectors. He currently works at The City of Calgary, where he leads the IT Project Management Office. A lifelong learner and strong proponent of education, he holds a Master of Business Administration and multiple certifications, including a Project Management Professional (PMP)® designation from Project Management Institute. Darren joined the Board of Directors in December 2020, and with two children in the program, he is excited to leverage his prior governance experience to support PHAS.
Megan Hunter

Camille Naqvi P. Geo is a professional geologist with over 15 years of experience and a mother of 3. Camille has a history of volunteer experience and joined the PHAS board as a means to give back to the community. Camille is excited to use her skills and experience to support PHAS for the benefit of the children, families, and the community.

Elaine Whalen

Elaine Whalen is a seasoned Facility Manager with extensive experience overseeing school operations for students in grades 3 -12. She currently manages operations at a Calgary-based school, bringing a deep understanding of facility management and day-to-day school needs. Prior to this, she held a variety of operational roles with both the Calgary Board of Education (CBE) and the Livingstone Range School Division, where she developed a broad range of expertise in supporting educational environments. Elaine also previously led a youth group in Claresholm and is passionate about early childhood development. She enjoys supporting the Board and giving back to the community.

PHAS is a nonprofit childcare organization that is governed by a volunteer Board of Directors. Serving on the board is a highly rewarding experience and is a great opportunity to network with other professionals and community members. If you have a desire to engage in your community and would like to join our friendly and professional team, please consider volunteering on the board.
